Terms of Service
Effective October 9, 2026
These terms govern your use of CheerStride's website and companion care services. Please read them carefully.
About these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and CheerStride ("CheerStride," "we," or "us"). They apply when you visit our website, create an account, book or receive visits, or use our services as a client, family member, or Community Companion. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and the policies shown in your portal (including the cancellation, companion care, transportation, and home safety intake policies). If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
What CheerStride provides
CheerStride arranges non-medical companion care visits in parts of the East Bay, California. Visits are provided by Community Companions who are employed, screened, and scheduled by CheerStride. Companionship can include conversation, activities, light help around the home, errands, and, when booked, companion transportation.
CheerStride does not provide medical, nursing, or clinical care. Companions do not administer medication, perform medical procedures, or make medical decisions. CheerStride is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 911.
Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
- If you book visits for another person, you confirm that you have that person's permission or the legal authority to arrange care for them.
- Keep your account information accurate, including service addresses, emergency contacts, and care notes a companion needs to know to visit safely.
- You are responsible for activity under your account. Keep your password private and tell us right away if you think your account has been used without permission.
Booking visits
- Standard visits are booked at least 48 hours in advance. Short-notice and emergency requests, when available, carry the additional fees shown before you confirm.
- A booking is confirmed when it appears in your portal. We may need to change or cancel a visit if a companion becomes unavailable, the address is outside our service area, or safety requirements are not met. If we cancel, we will tell you promptly and you will not be charged for that visit.
- The first visit at a new address includes a home safety intake. Someone with authority for the household should be available, as described in the home safety intake policy.
Payments
- You must keep a valid payment card on file to book. Cards are stored by our payment processor, Stripe; CheerStride does not store full card numbers.
- One-time visits are charged when you book. Weekly recurring visits are charged 48 hours before each visit. Prices, fees, and any discounts are shown before you confirm.
- Additional charges may apply as described in our policies, such as companion transportation mileage, visit extensions you approve, and late cancellation charges.
- If a charge fails, the visit stays booked while we retry and ask you to update your card. If payment cannot be collected before the visit, we may cancel it.
- Refunds follow the cancellation and refund policy in effect when you booked.
Cancellations
You can cancel visits in your portal. Whether you receive a full, partial, or no refund depends on how far in advance you cancel, as described in the cancellation and refund policy.
Safety and conduct
We want every visit to be safe and respectful for clients and companions. You agree to:
- Provide a safe environment for visits, including secured pets and a home free of hazards that would put a companion at risk.
- Treat companions and staff with respect. Harassment, discrimination, threats, or abuse of any kind are not tolerated.
- Not ask companions to perform medical tasks, handle finances or valuables beyond agreed errands, or do anything unsafe or unlawful.
A companion may end a visit early if they feel unsafe, and CheerStride may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms.
Community Companions
If you use CheerStride as a Community Companion or applicant, your employment is governed by your offer letter, CheerStride's employment policies, and applicable law. These Terms cover your use of the website and portal and do not create or change an employment contract.
Communications
By creating an account, you agree that we may send you service messages about your account and visits by email and, if you provide a mobile number, by text message. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out of non-essential texts by replying STOP, but some account and safety notices are required to use the service.
Our website and content
The CheerStride name, logo, and website content belong to CheerStride. You may use the website only to use our services, and you may not interfere with its operation, attempt to access other people's information, or use automated tools to scrape it.
Disclaimers
We work hard to provide reliable, high-quality visits, but the service is provided "as is." To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that a particular companion, time, or service will always be available, or that the website will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, CheerStride is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid CheerStride in the six months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under California law, including liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your profile page. Deleting your account cancels nothing on its own, so cancel any upcoming visits first. We keep records we are required to keep by law, such as payment, visit, and employment records, as described in our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or put others at risk.
Disputes
If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it informally. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Contra Costa County, California, unless the law requires otherwise. Small-claims court remains available for qualifying claims.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above and ask you to review and accept the new version the next time you sign in. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you can stop using the service and delete your account.
